Services

I offer a range of upholstery and soft furnishing services to both domestic and trade customers here at the workshop, from a simple re-cover of your favourite footstool, to the complete reupholstery of 18th and 19th century antiques using traditional techniques. The different services, and the difference between modern and traditional upholstery, are explained below to help you better understand the journey that your furniture will take.

re-cover

Re-covering a piece of furniture is simply the replacing of the existing fabric, with new material. So if you’re just looking to change the look or feel of a piece of furniture, one that is internally and structurally sound, then re-covering is the way to go. This process is a great option to breathe new life into an aging piece.

reupholstery

Reupholstery involves replacing or repairing elements of the internal structure of a piece of furniture. This is often done to return a piece to its original shape after being worn down over years of use, or to repair broken or damaged pieces. Affected areas will be stripped down to the frame, either partially or fully, and rebuilt as needed.

modern vs traditional upholstery

  • Modern upholstery refers to pieces of furniture made with foam fillings, which is the vast majority of furniture produced since the 1950s.

  • Traditional upholstery is built up in layers using animal hair and plant fibres, and other natural materials.
